Global woes sap manufacturing optimism

Audio: Peak industry group urges increased exporter assistance (AM)

A survey of Australian manufacturers has found most are expecting a moderate year because of global uncertainty.
The Australian Industry Group survey of more than 500 manufacturers has found while sales are expected to repeat the strong performance of the last financial year, growth volumes will remain moderate.
The group says most of the sales will be driven by domestic demand, as the ongoing strength of the Australian dollar weakens export performance.
Export growth is expected to drop to 7.5 per cent, from 13.7 per cent last year.
